. BRAINSTORM FOR OUR OFFICIAL AND IMPROVED NARRATIVE
As a group we decided to make drastic changes to our previous narratives as it was not going as planned, below are elements we aim to include in our newest trailer.
Monday, 24 November 2014
. VERBAL FEEDBACK REGARDING THE FIRST STORYLINE
I previously provided a clip of a peer viewing our trailer's rough cut, with the feedback we got from her we came to the conclusion that the trailer was honestly not as good as we thought it would be. She told us that she couldn't tell what the story line was, and that it wasn't clear as to what was really going on just that there was a girl who was being followed. She recommended that we incorporate conventions of the genre e.g dark atmospheres, or low lighting and also a range of fast shots. She told us that the trailer wasn't very good, specifically the links between each scene and therefore she would rate our film a 2/5.

. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
Here you can see one of our peers viewing a rough cut of our initial trailer, this trailer was based on our original narrative we created. From her body language you can see that she finds it difficult to take the viewing seriously (this might be because she is in front of the camera) however we can tell that she wasn't frightened as she didn't jump at all. Her reaction was not expected, as most Horrors strive to frighten the audience, with the reaction from this individual we have been able to asses that the trailer is inadequate.

. SETTINGS
These are some of the settings used for the trailer - the reasons we chose these locations are as we were able to film voyeuristic scenes in both large open spaces and darker areas indoors. A large spacious area would make chase scenes more menacing , and using plain backgrounds found in close areas filmed using an out of focus lens could be good for a psychological killer's short appearances.

. IMPROVED NARRATIVE
1. Riley’s (Dawn) on her bed at home, looking
at herself in the mirror
2. Riley talks to Phoenix (Sharna) about
feeling watched
3. Phoenix persuades Riley to attend the party
4. Riley argues, she doesn’t want to attend
the party - typical aspects of the final girl theory
5. She’s finally persuaded by Phoenix, and
attends the party
6. Loki attempts to touch Riley in a sexual
manner, this is seen by a bystander
7. The bystander tells Phoenix and, Phoenix
then believes Riley’s out to ruin her relationship with Loki
8. Riley and Phoenix go home, and while
Phoenix is busy in the bathroom – Riley notices a shrine to herself under the
bed (in Loki and Phoenix’ house)
9. Riley thinks Loki is to blame and the owner
of the shrine
10. Riley runs out of the house, she manages to
drop her key = and Phoenix realises she’s
found the shrine
11. New day
12. Riley “you need to look under the bed! I
think Loki’s obsessed with me”
Phoenix
“what are you going on about?!”
Riley
“JUST LOOK UNDER THE BED!”
13. Phoenix turns to look at Loki who is lying
down in the bed with her, and the audience feels as though Loki is the guilty
one because of her menacing stare
14. Flashback? – past interaction
Riley
and Loki were together earlier on in the year.
Phoenix
manages to distract Loki from her and that is how they begin their
relationship.
Phoenix’
paranoia sets in, because of this event and therefore she is always wary of
Riley – this is why they become best friends, so that Riley has no reason to go
after Loki

. VILLAIN'S CHARACTERS
- In our narrative it was decided that we may have two villain's in our trailer, it is extremely unconventional for a horror film to have two villains as there is normally only one, and this individual normally has a history with the villain. Because it is not clear what the history is between both of these villains it adds a level of mystery to the story line.
- They will be a couple, who have a vendetta against the character of Riley.
- Both are popular individuals, but with a very tumultuous relationship with each other
- Flirtatious characters
- Sinister/sadistic attitudes
Phoenix (female)
Phoenix is one of the main protagonists in our trailer, she is the complete opposite of the character of Riley. She indulges in hedonistic practices, and is a very devious character. One of the most popular girls in school with what appears to be the perfect life, she actually suffers from intense schizophrenia, this causes her to fail yo remember what is is she's done to others due to a range of personalities and characteristics. She acts as what appears to be a close friend to Riley, however she has ulterior motives. She conjures up a plan with her partner, Loki to murder Riley after an altercation between her boyfriend Loki and Riley at a party. Phoenix is an extremely jealous character, who gets consumed by her views of Riley.
Loki (male)
Loki is Phoenix's boyfriend, and partner. Easily led by the wants of his girlfriend, he speaks little but is better with his actions anyway. He has a history with Riley that Phoenix knows little about, he chooses to keep this a secret.

. PROM NIGHT REMAKE
Below is my groups' remake of the opening scene, of Prom Night. As a group we shared out the different roles both behind and in front of the camera. As a group we also shared the responsibility of editing the scene, and therefore we made the concious decision not to add an audio that would act as a soundtrack to the clip as that put up what can be interpreted as a 'wall' that we didn't want the viewers to have to remain behind. I believe with the opening scene, the use of diegetic sounds made the clip a lot more realistic, the only thing I would have changed would have been the volume of the clip. My group and I took it in turns to edit and film the work that we did. We used some digetic sounds such as the scream over the 'mom's' scream. We wanted the production to be menacing, however it was not as successful as we intended for it to be. Unfortunately, we didn't have a spare battery so our camera died on us and we couldn't proceed further. We had to use the footage we had to finish the story line with a cliff hanger. I also would have filmed a lot more if our camera didn't die on us. I think that the scene we remade could have been different, but we had so little time, so we had to be very prompt when making a decision of what scene/trailer we wanted to remake. Overall, I think that all of my group members worked well and I think that I worked well too.

. PROM NIGHT TRAILER ORIGINAL
Prom Night is a 2008
American slasher film from Screen
Gems directed by Nelson McCormick and starring Brittany
Snow and Johnathon Schaech. The film's plot concerns a high
school girl named Donna Keppel (Brittany Snow) who was traumatized after
witnessing her former teacher Richard Fenton (Johnathon Schaech) brutally
murder her entire family after he had become dangerously obsessed with her.
My group decided to recreate the opening scene of this film because of the overall suspense and the execution was well done. It's a really interesting clip and therefore the viewer can easily follow the events and understand what's going on. The films' opening scene included numerous conventional aspects of the film genre e.g blood and gore, good vs. evil, and weapons used to commit murder and torture - this opening scene is extremely appropriate for the 'slasher' sub genre. We filmed the scene in a house that we were able to recreate one of the key moments which the group identified as the bed scene. This scene was important to recreate, but we had to make some changes to the scene, by using an all female cast we added a sense of enigma that was a lot more interesting than the 'typical boyfriend, girlfriend break up story'. We still ensured we focused on the main female character who was named, Donna (we renamed her Courtney, a uni-sex name essential for a final girl.) We also stuck the the real story line by including her mother and a villain.
Due to us having a very low budget, the recreated opening scene was not really the same quality as the 'Prom Night' opening scene but we did execute it well.
